Are our hearts fully committed to God?

2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him…"

Though God had come to King Asa’s rescue previously and blessed his kingdom abundantly, Asa became self-sufficient and fell into unbelief. Instead of depending on God, he used the national treasury to hire the Syrian army to fight the most recent battle. The Syrians won the battle, Asa’s plan looked brilliant and the people were thrilled; however, God was not at all pleased. Though King Asa had experience with God, his wealth became his demise. He no longer looked to God for help and deliverance but depended on his own resources to take care of his affairs.

Hanani, the seer, expressed to Asa how God felt and rebuked him for relying on someone other than God. He said, “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore, from now on you shall have wars.” Because King Asa’s heart was not fully loyal to God, King Asa would now face ongoing wars during the rest of his reign. The scripture tells us that the Lord’s eyes go to and fro, they range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. When God finds this kind of heart loyalty, He sets out to give them strength and fights for them. I want God on my side, how about you?

Lord,

Help us to fix our eyes on you and look to You to help us in our time of need. May we not become dependent on anything else but trust in You who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Help us to seek Your direction in all matters and wait patiently for Your wisdom to lead us to do things according to Your will.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
