We must let go and let God!

Philippians 2:5-7Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

We can easily get caught up in all of the world’s competitiveness in the workplace or in the social stratosphere that is pulling us away from God. We see promotions being passed out around us, ata-boys being given, people driving brand new cars and building bigger homes, and the jockeying for position can go on and on. Power and prestige are in and marriage and the family has gone by the wayside. Often this power and prestige consumes our focus and instead of looking to God for His plans and His direction we set out to handle things on our own and in our own way. We take control when actually as a Follower of Jesus Christ, we are to submit and take on the likeness of Jesus. Philippians 2:5-7 tells us that we are to have His mind. Jesus did not use His power and prestige to further His agenda, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant. This doesn’t mean that we should let people walk all over us but it does mean that we are to humble ourselves and seek His face, His wisdom, and His direction. He has a plan for our lives that will glorify Him and magnify His Kingdom. When we don’t surrender to God’s authority, we are in essence taking control of things ourselves which is sin. When we submit to God’s authority, He promises that we will inherit the earth which takes on the notion of permanence, of peace and security, and inheriting our Father’s Kingdom. It can be hard to let go and let God be in control but the blessings far out weigh the anger, resentment, frustration and emptiness that comes when we take on God’s role for ourselves.

Dear Lord,

Sometimes impatience creeps in and we give in to the pressures of life. We end up taking control of situations when we shouldn’t and try to manipulate the circumstances for our own good. Please forgive us. Help us to be ever mindful of you. May we desire only Your leading and Your ways. If we’ve been blinded and don’t recognize our sin, would you please bring the hidden things to light so that we can get things right with You. Lord, You are the Way, the Truth and the Light and we don’t want to get in the way of Your plans. We surrender all!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
