Blessed Be The Ties That Bind

Philippians 1:3-4 "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you I pray with joy."

In writing a letter to the saints in the church at Phillipi, Paul wanted them to know just how much he loved them. Scripture tells us that he yearned for them with the affection of Christ. Here is evidence that the gospel not only brings us in union with Christ but with other believers as well. He wasn't writing to them out of a duty as a pastor for his congregation but out of a true love and longing for his fellow believers. These fellow believers understood Paul's calling. They shared in his passion for Jesus and partnered with him in the spreading of the gospel so much so that when they heard of his needs and his time of imprisonment, they immediately responded by sending the resources they had to help him.

As I thought about Paul's journeys I began to think about the many missionaries around the world and especially those from our church who have answered God's call to go forth and share the good news of the gospel. They have sacrificed much to be obedient to God's call. I wonder how often we take the time to pray and ask God how we can come along side of them to aid them in their ministry? Probably not often enough. We get so comfortable and stay so busy that our focus is shifted from giving to gaining. The resources God has given us are used to prosper and proliferate our circumstances rather than helping to equip the saints on the field.

The relationship between Paul and the Philippian believers moved me to think about what part Bob and I are playing in regards to the mission work around the world. I challenge you to take the time to pray and familiarize yourself with the missionaries your local church supports or others you are aware of and see how God might show you how you can be a part of their kingdom ministries. Endear your hearts to those that God is endeared to and He will bless the ties that bind you together for His namesake.

Dear Lord,

You have placed a special call on the lives of the missionaries around the world. Help us to look outside of ourselves and seek to partner with you in equipping these saints according to your plans. They have sacrificed so much to answer your call and we ask that you bless every little aspect of their ministry. Protect them as they go about their days and radiate your likeness through them like you've never done before. May your presence be felt so strongly wherever they go that people are left yearning to know what they are all about. Forgive us, Lord, for neglecting to take an interest in their affairs and burden our hearts for them as they surrender their hearts for your purposes.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
