Victory in Jesus

Romans 6:1-4 "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

Before any of us came to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, sin was our master. It literally owned us and everywhere we turned it was looking us in the face. Praise the Lord in whom all good things flow, the good news of the gospel is that the chains of sin have been broken and we are free! Sin no longer owns us. We’ve been set free from the power of sin and death.

Does that mean that we are sinless? Absolutely not, but it does mean that we sin less. As we grow in the Lord and mature in our faith we should sin less and less and less as the years go by. Our motivation to sin less is not to earn our way into heaven because as a believer, heaven is now our home. We can’t earn our way into anything. We should live our lives in obedience out of grateful hearts, thanking Jesus for all that He has done to free us from the bondage of sin. Jesus didn’t die on the cross for us to live mediocre lives. He died on the cross so that we can live victoriously in His presence day in and day out. We owe a debt of gratitude for all that He has done for us.

Oh Victory in Jesus, My Savior, Forever

He sought me and He bought me

With His redeeming blood.

He loved me ere I knew Him

And all my love is due Him

He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for your gift of salvation and your transforming power of grace. We owe our lives to you! Help us to never forget what You’ve done for us and to take every opportunity that You afford us to spread the good news of the gospel to anyone You put in our path. Open our eyes to be able to see where You are working so that we can join You in the midst of all that You are orchestrating. Heighten all of our senses and move us to have compassion for the lost. Make us flexible so if we are needed, we will stop at a moments notice just to listen or help if we're needed. We praise you for your demonstrative love that has set an example for us to follow!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
