Known By Our Remembering

Deut. 8:1-3 "Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands . He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD ."

As believers, God calls us to be people that remember. . . to remember what Jesus Christ has done for us on the cross, to remember the pain and agony He suffered just to free us from the bondage of our sin, to remember our old self and the degradating ways of being of the world, to remember what we believe, to remember who we belong to, to remember God's promises, to remember His ways and the list goes on and on.

So, why is it so important to remember? Because as Dwight L. Moody once said, "We leak!" We tend to forget and when we forget to remember fear begins to set in. When we walk in fear, we've lost our focus and end up in a downward spiral left empty and forlorn.

I've lived there myself, fearful and empty and I can testify to the fact that it is a paralyzing state. Fear consumes and dictates every thought, word and action. It cuts you off from opportunity and separates you from the fellowship we're intended to be a part of. It's physically debilitating and emotionally crippling. I constantly praise my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from delivering me and setting me on the course of an abundant life full of hope and joy. My life is not perfect by any means but He has freed my tongue to be able to sing His praises and testify of His goodness. I am able to rest in His presence and trust in His plans for my life. And I don't have to be perfect! "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!" Romans 11:33 I don't have to be afraid any longer because God has gone before me and knows the way. I trust Him with every part of my being as I've experienced His deliverance and know His peace. Every morning and evening I choose to take time to remember just what the Lord has done for me. His mercy endures forever!

Never stop remembering, my friend, all that the Lord has done for you! Remembering is the key to keeping us focused on Jesus and His plans and purposes for our lives.

Dear Lord,

We have fickle minds and like the Israelites, we tend to forget all that you have done for us. Please get our attention when we find ourselves wallowing in self pity and discontentment and bring to mind your faithfulness in times past. Help us to remember the spiritual markers that have given us a glimpse of who You are and just how much you love us. We need you! May we be a remembering people so that thankfulness becomes a way of life for us and spills over to those around us. Blessed be Your holy name which is the name above all names. You are the Alpha and Omega hemming in everything we need you to be! Thank you!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
