Have You Checked Out of Reality

Luke 12:34 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." I couldn't get the chorus of Toby Mac's song, "Made To Love" out of my head this morning. I was made to love you, I was made to find you. I was made just for you, made to adore you. I was made to love, And be loved by you. You were here before me, You were waiting on me. And you said you'd keep me, Never would you leave me. I was made to love, And be loved by you.

The chorus really sums up our purpose here on this earth, to love God and have a relationship with Him. Of course along with that reality comes responsibilities to love our fellow man and share the good news, but again, the primary reason we were created was for God's pleasure. He was meant to be our primary focus, the creme' de la creme' of our priorities, the center of our being, and the higher consciousness of our mind.

With that being said, somehow life happens and we slowly lose our focus. I think we often get so caught up in "Me" that we forget about "Him". Can you relate? We have more distractions competing for our attention than ever before and I would have to say that social media is one of the worst. I recently sat down to a relaxing dinner with someone when their phone went off. Talk about feeling like second fiddle . . . I was left to eat alone until the end of the conversation. Unfortunately, this has become the norm in our society. People are so dependent and addicted to the notifications that they can not carry on a conversation without checking to see who thinks they are important and they truly become disengaged with reality. Needless to say, there is less time for God. It's become an I'll get back to you society where people, even family, are relegated to an inferior rank. Luke reminds us in Luke 12:34 that where our treasure is, there our heart will be. Again, third string, bush league, second class and no it is not just a millennial problem. All of society is affected by this modern phenomenon.

If you have found yourself distanced from your first love might I suggest that you begin by parking your phone and checking it only at certain intervals or check out the new Siempo phone app. God is yearning for more of your time and I'm sure your friends and family would like to have your undivided love and attention back too.

Personal this prayer.

Dear Lord,

Forgive me. I've gotten distracted once again and have neglected You and others. I have no excuse, I guess the thrill of being needed has subtly crept in. Help me to get my priorities in order and take the time to treasure what is important in my life. I realize that in an instant life can change and I want to make sure that those closest to me know how much I love them. I love You, Lord and I thank You for all that You mean to me. Focus my attention on You for I know that when I seek You first, everything else will fall in place behind. You are my strength and my song. You are my Fortress and Deliverer and I trust You in all things.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
