Closer To The End Of The Roll

Ephesians 5:15-17 "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is."

Is it just me or does time seem to be passing quickly these days? My father used to say that the closer you get to the end of the toilet paper roll the faster it rolls and I am finding it to be so true. We now have 8 precious grandchildren and are closer to the end of our lives than the beginning so I began to think more about the the time that we have left here on the earth. While I was reading I came across Psalm 144:4 which says that humans are as fleeting shadows. So friends, if I'm a fleeting shadow then I want to make sure that my shadow makes a lasting statement. I've set out to strive to be more purposeful with my time, who I am spending time with and what I am spending my time doing. Paul cautions us in Ephesians 5 to make the most of every opportunity so I imagine he understood a little bit about making the most of his time also.

It has been said that men can mark time, waste time, and kill time but only a Christian who walks in wisdom can redeem time. Redeeming time means that we buy up or seize the opportunities that are presented to us. So, how is it possible to redeem the time that we have left and make the most of every opportunity while serving on this mission field?

Let me suggest that first our priorities must be settled. We must determine what exactly we value the most. Once you have a greater understanding of what is important to you and why, then it is a lot easier to maintain your focus. We all have limited time and energy so our energy needs to be directed towards who and what matters most. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ then God should have been given the trump card in this evaluation. Nothing or no one should take the center stage away from Him. The Bible tells us that when we seek first the Kingdom then everything else will fall into place, He's promised to direct our paths so we can be anticipating His involvement in the rest of our day and with whomever we spend it with.

Next we must determine how we want to live or what we want to do with the days or time we have left. God has placed people in my life that He desires for me to make an impact on for the Kingdom, whether it be family, friends, co-workers, etc. There is a reason that I've have been placed where I am in this season of my life so I've decided to be more intentional about being the fragrance of the knowledge of the Lord wherever or with whomever I find myself. God may have given You other desires but however we choose to spend the rest of our days lets make sure that we do all for the glory of our Father in heaven. He is the God who absolutely is, and was and will be forever and ever. His Kingdom shall have no end!
