Matthew 18:10 "“Watch that you don’t treat a single one of these childlike believers arrogantly. You realize, don’t you, that their personal angels are constantly in touch with my Father in heaven?"
All of us at one time or another have been fascinated by angels and the role they play in the Kingdom of God. We have many questions like who are they, why did God create them, what is their purpose, or do we have a guardian angel? The Bible holds the answers to the majority of our questions; however, there are many things we will never know and will have to wait until we get to heaven to find out. Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us, "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law."
The Bible speaks of angels more than 250 times and refers to them as messengers, watchers, hosts of heaven, sons of the mighty, sons of God, chariots of fire, ministering spirits, holy ones, flames of fire, rulers, thrones, dominions, powers, the elect, the counsel, God's servants, worshipers, bearers, soldiers, principalities,and heavenly beings. Each of these titles helps us to better understand their attributes. It is interesting to note that so many different titles were given to them as they've carried out God's plans through time.
God created the angels (Col. 1:16) and we are told in Luke 2:36 that they will live for eternity. They were present before the creation of the world (Job 38:1-7). They can discern good & evil & give insight & understanding (2 Samuel 14:17). They are spiritual beings (Psalm 104:4) that take an interest in the affairs of men (Luke 15:10). They are subject to Christ and like us, have a will (Jude 1:6) to choose heaven or hell. Angels have limitations. They are not all knowing, not all powerful and can not be everywhere at all times. The Bible tells us that they are too numerous to count (Hebrews 12;22), they will not marry (Matthew 22;30), they perform the will of God (Psalm 104:4) and will join Believers in heaven one day worshiping our King (Hebrews 12:22-23).
Hebrews 1:15 reminds us that holy elect angels are ALL ministering spirits whose job is to serve God by attending to care for His people (Hebrews 1:14). They live in the presence of God worshiping Him and waiting for His commands. God uses the angels for our benefit. He sends them out to minister to us in ways we are often not even aware of. Matthew 18:10 tells people not to look down on God's children as the angels are always in front of the Father looking at His face. The angels never take their eyes off of Him as they adore Him and don't want to miss any direction or assignment He might have for them to come to our aid. Just think about that for a moment . . .there are thousands and thousands of angels (Hebrews 12:22) ready and waiting to protect, guide and provide for ALL Believers at ALL times. Friends, what a gift we've been given! The angels do not minister to unbelievers. They do God's bidding of striking unbelievers down and at death, ushering them into the fire. (Matt. 13:41-42).
There is so much more that we can glean from the Bible about angels but I want to touch on one more aspect. Hebrews 13:2 tells us "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." In Biblical times there weren't public inns or houses of entertainment for people so it was considered hospitable to entertain visitors and invite them into one's home. We live in dangerous times so I'm not advising you to invite strangers into your home; however, wouldn't it be amazing if, as Christians, we made others feel welcomed and valued in every interaction whether it be in the workplace, at the supermarket, at a ballgame etc. Imagine the witness to God's love if we had a reputation for hospitality in the course of our ordinary day. We never know when we will be entertaining angels unawares, so I have to ask, are you in the hospitality business?

Dear Lord,
I know from different things that have happened in my life that you have sent angels to minister and guide me. I praise and thank You for not only Your thoughtful care but theirs as well. How comforting it is to know that they love and respect Your children and passionately want to serve at Your bidding call. In thinking about angels it burdens me more so than ever before that the lost do not have anyone looking out for them. They have chosen to control their lives; therefore, they go at life all alone without any help whatsoever from You or Yours. Please help me to be hospitable at all times. Empower me to be loving, giving, and eager to invest in people's lives. Show me how to reach them with the Truth of God's Word and give me the discernment to know when the time is right to share. It is an honor and a privilege to be loved and cared for by You. May I use every opportunity to love and care for others as well. I praise You as Jehovah Jireh, my provider. I claim You as my God and King.
