Psalm 121:7-8 "God guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always.."
I love to use coupons to save money and try to make the most out of what the Lord has blessed us with; however, though I have good intentions, I often let the coupons expire before I get a chance to use them. It is so frustrating for me and of course there is no forgiveness or grace period. Once you exceed the expiration date, the coupon is of no value.
Thankfully the beautiful promise in Psalm 121 has no expiration date. God promises to guard us from every evil at all times. In the New International Version of the Bible they use the word "keep" instead of guard. It basically means the same thing; however, it also means to watch over and attend to carefully. This keeping was a reference of protection over God's people as they traveled to Jerusalem and beyond but it also is a promise for God's children today. He promises to keep us from evil, to keep watch over our lives, to watch over our coming and going, and finally the scripture says that He keeps us at all times.
There is absolutely no area of our lives that God does not have control over or where He is not keeping a watchful look out over us. The Bible tells us that the evil one roams the earth looking for whom He can devour but we don't need to be alarmed because our God is faithful and His Word is telling us that He is keeping watch over every little detail of our journey while we are here on mission for Him. He has positioned Himself in such a way that He can see everything and He is standing guard. It doesn't matter what season, what time of day, or where we are living, God has everything under control and seeks to protect us at all times.
You might be saying, well why did such and such happen and all I can tell you is that God is in complete control of everything that happens to us. We have to trust Him in all things. He allows some things because He trusts us and knows how we will respond. You can be sure that whatever He allows in our lives, there is a purpose behind it and it will ultimately result in His glory. He orchestrates everything according to His will and His ways and we can be assured that He will protect us in the midst of what we are facing.
I need this little reminder especially when the days get hard and I feel like I'm racing around to accomplish all I need to get done. It is a blessed assurance!
Psalm 121:1-2 perfectly sums up this comforting promise of protection for each of us. "I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." He is our Keeper now and forever more.

Dear Lord,
Thank you that for Your promise of protection. It is a comfort to know that You are keeping watch over me and my family at all times of the day and night. If I wanted to allow it, fear could set in real quick because there is so much in this world to guard against; however, I'm trusting in You, the Author and Finisher of my faith. You are my Protector, my Guard, my Deliverer and my Guide. My life is in Your hands. I pray that You will help me to maintain Your peace at all times so that others will catch a glimpse of You while I go about my day. May Your will be done in me as I minister in Your name.
