Philippians 4:19 "And my God shall meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus."
One of the most common verses that I hear Christians leaning on is Philippians 4:19, "And my God shall meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus." Lets flesh out the background and meaning behind this scripture as there is really more here than meets the eye. It actually has built within it a condition to God's intervention. We need to be careful that we do not just pull out scripture and attach our own thoughts to it but always dig into God's Word and try to discern all that He is trying to teach us.
First of all Paul is saying here that "His God" would provide all of their needs. Paul had been brought to his knees on the Damascus Road and was confronted by Jesus. He was immediately thrust into a relationship with Jesus Christ and experienced Him in a powerful way. Paul is telling his readers that he intimately knows God as the Provider of all of his needs and has a personal relationship with Him. This is very important because if we are to rely on God to meet all of our needs, we must have a personal relationship also. We must come to know Him by experiencing Him.
The life of Abraham provides us with a great example. (Genesis 22) God had told Abraham to take Isaac, his beloved son, to Mount Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering. Abraham didn't question God and obeyed all that He commanded. He took Isaac to the designated place and prepared the fire. Isaac, in his innocence, asked his father where the lamb was for the sacrifice and Abraham responded by telling him that God would provide which He did. Abraham then called this place Jehovah-jireh which means God will provide. Notice that before God provided for Abraham's needs, Abraham obeyed God's commands. We don't often provide this fact when telling the story but it is very critical to the understanding of this concept. We must have a personal relationship with God and be living in obedience to HIm if we are going to expect Him to meet all of our needs.
Now, God knows our needs before we even ask of Him, but that in itself does not guarantee that He will provide. The key to God providing can be seen in Matthew 6:33 where it says, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Jesus wasn't telling people how they could become Believers in this section of scripture. He was trying to explain to the Believers how they could be sure to attain everything that they needed. He knew they would have needs and He already knew what they were but He wanted them to know that they were to put first things first which of course he meant their relationship with Him. Seek first the Kingdom and God's righteousness, in other words, make sure that you are in a right relationship with God, seeking to be holy and pure, and then you can be sure that He will supply all that you need.
Friends, I like how one man put it. We don't have the right to ask for our "Daily Bread" when we don't seek first on a daily basis the Kingdom of God and HIs righteousness. We Must Be Engaged With Our Provider Before We Can Expect Provisions From His Hand!

Personalize this prayer.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for pursuing me and saving me from destruction. I will never be the same again. You closed the door to my past and have given me a new beginning with endless possibilities which is more than I could have every dreamed. I love you and trust that if I have a need that you will provide but I realize that there many people our there that do not have that assurance. I pray that you would give me the courage to step out and share all that you mean to me in hopes of pointing someone closer to you. Please give me a heart for the lost and compassion for their destructive state. May my heart and my lips be a blessing to all those You send my way.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
