Ezekiel 48:35 “All the way around shall be eighteen thousand cubits; and the name of the city from that day shall be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
We first see the name of the Lord as Jehovah-Shammah in Ezekiel 48. God revealed to Ezekiel in a vision in 574 BC while he was under Babylonian exile in Jerusalem that the name of the city would no longer be called Jerusalem, "The City of Peace." The new name for the city would be Jehovah-Shammah, "The Lord Is There", the Lord is present. He was shown that the city and the temple would be rebuilt. "The Lord is There" means that the Lord will be present in His temple but not just in the Temple, the Lord will be present and dwell within us if we love Him and obey. This name of God is unusual because of being the name of a city; however, it still relays a truth of God's character in being present with His people.
2 Corinthians 6:16 reminds us that if we are a Believer in Jesus Christ, God has promised to come and live inside of us. “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” So in essence, the Lord is present within us. We are a temple of the living God and His Spirit dwells within us. (1 Corinthians 3:16) I think that we too often forget that God desires for our temples to be holy and pure. We go about our day in tune with the world instead of tuning in to the Lord our God and we succumb to all the world has to offer instead of seeking to glorify Him in all that we say and do. It really is something to think about.
Let's look further as to how this name of His applies to us. If you are like me, we look ahead with anticipation to certain events in our lives be it entertaining and fun or a drudgery, have to situation. If it's a situation that we are dreading, a court date or doctor's appointment, a divorce, a new job, the birthday of someone who has passed or a funeral etc. there may be a lot of anxiety involved and we all know how anxiety is manifested in our bodies, don't we?
Guess what? Jehovah-Shammah is there! Our God is already in our tomorrow. He knows what the future holds, He knows the outcome of it and is in control of the whole situation. We should be able to rest in Him. The Bible says that in Jeremiah 29:11 that Jehovah-Shammah says, "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not disaster: to give you a future and hope." The Lord is There. We can not be in the future but He can and He is! He will walk with us in our tomorrows because He loves us and all He asks is that we trust Him.
I practice the Lord's presence every day and I invite you to do so also. Just to know that He is right here with me and yet goes before me gives me a great sense of peace. I don't have to walk alone through anything I am facing or will face tomorrow because He is here now and He holds the future in His hands. Friends, He truly cares about every aspect of our lives!

Dear Lord,
I love the thought of You being here with me at all times and yet looking ahead to the future at the same time. It gives me comfort in knowing that You know all, see all, and are in control of all things. This assurance allows me to rest in peace and trust in You most of the time. I confess that I probably fail often to acknowledge You immediately om stressful situations. Forgive me. I get caught up in the moment and don't think logically. Please draw me back into reality at those times and remind me of the Truth of Your Word. In Your presence there is healing, hope, mercy, grace, freedom, wholeness, power and so much more and it is available to me. Wow! Thank You for revealing Yourself to me in so many ways and help me to share each aspect of all of who You are when You bring opportunity. What a glorious treasure I've been given!
