El Elyon

Psalm 97:9 "For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods."

If you have never had the opportunity to go up on top of a huge skyscraper, spend some time and view the scenery then you need to write it down on your bucket list. This experience will literally change your perspective as a Believer. Because you know the Most High God you will begin to see things from the height that He does. You'll see miniature cars and trains, doll like houses with tiny shrubs and flowers and little, swerving roads that stretch for thousands of miles across a landscape that looks like you could reach out and grab it with one hand. What used to seem monumental becomes small, the difficult appears easy and what seemed impossible now appears as though the possibilities are endless.

Abraham came to know God as "El Elyon" which means to go up or ascend thus "The Most High God", the one who is above everything. There is no one greater than "El Elyon" who is Supreme above all others. He is not just mighty but Almighty and reigns sovereignly over all the earth. He knows all, sees all and seeks to guide His children to follow His will and His ways that are perfectly orchestrated and individually fit for each specific one. His ways can not compare to the plans anyone could conjure up because of His great wisdom and unlimited resources. We serve an Amazing, All Powerful, Living Most High God.

I love the lyrics to the song, El Elyon by Paul Wilbur. The words help us to put the whole realm of God's sovereignty in context. (You sit enthroned above the circle of the earth. Spreading out the heavens like a veil. You hold the universe so firmly in Your hand. Reaching out in love to all the world. El Elyon, Most High God, Holy is Your Name. No one can know the secrets hidden in Your heart. Mysteries beyond the reach of man. No one else commands the sun to rise and then to fall. All creation heeds the great I AM. El Elyon, Most High God. Holy is Your Name. Elohim, El Shaddai, Yeshua, Adonai Let the glory of Your name be magnified, Lord Most High.) I don't think that we can really wrap our minds around the greatness, the vastness, or the endless possibilities of the Lord our God. Our finite minds can not comprehend all that makes up His character nor can they fully appreciate the enormity of His attributes.

It is not surprising that there are 4 times in the Bible where the demons even refer to God as '""The God Most High" (Mark 5:7, Luke 8:28, Luke 6:35, Acts 16:17). They serve satan as their god, but it makes sense that they also know that Jesus is "The Most HIgh God." We need to remember that even satan is under God's control. We read about it when Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Simon, Simon, behold, satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail..." Luke 22:31-32

God's sovereignty is not a popular Truth these days because people like to be in control of their own situations; however, if you will surrender to Him as your sovereign King you will experience Him in ways You could never imagine. Won't you take a stand today to hail the power of The Most Almighty God?

Personalize this prayer.

Dear Lord,

I recognize You as The Matchless King that compares to no other. I honor You as The Most Sovereign God of all the earth. There have been times where I have taken it upon myself to totally control situations only to find myself crawling to You for guidance and direction. Forgive me. I've learned the hard way that Your ways and Your plans are best. I'm going to try harder to inquire of You in every circumstance not only to avoid the detours but to honor You as El Elyon. It amazes me that even the demons know the power of Your name. I've experienced Your power and Your perfect plans and when I see things transpire it leaves me in awe. Your ways are usually significant and something I had never thought of. Please fill me so full of Your presence that coming straight to You for wisdom is second nature to me. I want to glean from Your wisdom and get to know You better than ever before. You alone are the sovereign crown of royalty. The saints adore You and the angels sing songs of highest praise. I bow before Your throne and surrender to You and You alone, the Most High God.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
